Union Textiles Minister E V K S Elangovan announced here today that the centre is planning to set up 100 more integrated textile parks in the country.
The Centre had so far sanctioned 30 integrated textile parks, out of which five would be set up in Tamil Nadu, he added. He was speaking to reporters while visiting the site of the proposed textile park.
The Textile Minister said the Centre had sanctioned Rs 20 crore as subsidy for the park at Erode which is coming up on 40 acres of land. The park would provide direct employment to 5000 and indirect employment to 3000 people, he added.
Tamil Nadu Handloom Minister N K K P Raja said in the first phase integrated textile parks would be set up at Madurai, Karur, Komarapalayam, Palladam and Andipatty. He said the Handloom Secretary had written to the electricity department to look into the issue regarding power concession to the textile parks.
He said 50 per cent concession would be given to the parks on stamp duty during the time of registration.
The scheme for "Integrated Textile Parks" (ITPs), is designed to achieve the textile and clothing export target of $50 billion by 2010, proposes to create 25 textile parks of international standards at potential growth centres by 2007-08.
The Ministry for Textiles implements the scheme through special purpose vehicles (SPVs) at the field level and the Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL&FS) is the project management consultant for the entire scheme.
