As per the news release from leading daily’s it’s clear that the government may remove the cap on the cotton export by the end of December because Textile organizations in the United States, European Union (EU), Mexico and Turkey have sent a joint letter to their respective governments urging immediate action to halt cotton trade restrictions by the government of India. If only the cotton exports cap is removed by the government then be prepared for an another huge rise in the yarn price. Read full articles (link:http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/economy/policy/Bale-Out-Govt-to-review-cap-on-cotton-exports-in-Dec/articleshow/6826255.cms) NEW DELHI: India will review the cap on cotton exports in December after coming under pressure at home and abroad for the removal of trade restrictions .
A committee under finance minister Pranab Mukherjee will review the decision by the year-end , well before the US cotton crop comes into the market in February, agriculture minister Sharad Pawar said at the Economic Editors’ conference held here on Wednesday.
“We will review the cotton export scenario in December,” he said.
India has allowed export of only 5.5 million bales (1bale=170kgs).
A total of 4.4 million bales of cotton have already been approved for exports, after India relaxed export restrictions imposed last year on the back of a bumper crop, estimated at round 35 million bales for 2010-11 .
Pressure from the powerful textile industry at home forced the Centre to cap the quantum of exports despite tight global supply.
Textile organisations in the EU, Mexico and Turkey had accused India, the world’s second biggest cotton producer and consumer, of violating WTO rules by placing restrictions on trade.
Sections of the government, however , are of the view that farmers should be allowed to realise optimum price through exports. Reports of lower production in the US has boosted cotton to record prices, leading to panic buying by mills.
Meanwhile, a cotton conference on Wednesday held in top producer state Maharashtra demanded a higher support of Rs 4,500/qtl.
Mr Pawar, who is also the minister for food, PDS and consumer affairs, said he would hold talks with state governments soon over allowing foreign direct investment in multibrandretail .Whileopeninguptheretail sector would benefit both farmers andconsumersbyopeningupsupply bottlenecks, there was a need to discuss the impact of this on small retailers , he said.
The minister also raised the Centre’s estimates of sugar prodcution this year (2010-11 ) to a record 25mt, agood2mtaboveitsearlierfigure,ina span of few weeks as it prepares to takeadecisiononopeningupexports inmid-November .Privatesectorsugar platform ISMA has pegged output ataminimumof25mt,buttheCentre had pegged this at 23 mt earlier.

An US bill that might increase Pakistan's Apparel exports
Written By Views maker on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 | 5:48 AM
A bill before Congress, would allow Pakistani clothing makers in the Taliban-dominated north-west of the country to export their products duty-free to the US. But critics say that could come at the cost of American workers. American retailers, such as Wal-Mart and Levi Strauss, and brand owners, together with Pakistani manufacturers, are lobbying to expand the terms of the initiative. They say the programme is so restrictive in the products it covers that it is a ‘hollow gesture’ and would not boost the current $3.1bn (£1.9bn) worth of annual textile exports from Pakistan to the US. The bill, championed by Barack Obama, seeks to provide employment for people, who might otherwise be sucked into militant groups, which pay handsomely.
Multi feeder knitting machines
In Tirupur market market off late we find a lot of Multi – feeder knitting machines ( machines with 6 to 7 feeder per Inch of cylinder diameter ),
| Single jersey Multifeeder
|
these are mainly used for stripes designs, In order to make the bigger / engineering designs in a bit cheaper way they use it. In the older machine the feeder per inch was around 1.5 to 1.7 but later machines current ordinary machines have about 3 feeder per inch. The main problem with the extra no of feeders is that the fabric feel will not smooth and spirality cannot be controlled. if you cone across stripe with more than 5 cms it’s better to use auto strippers.
Tirupur exports in negative growth
Written By Views maker on Friday, July 17, 2009 | 5:21 AM
According to Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA), exports declined to Rs 9,500 crore in 2008-09 from Rs 9,950 crore in 2007-08 and Rs 11,000 crore in 2006-07, Exports from the knitwear city of Tirupur continued to show a negative growth, and the industry representatives say that their vision to become a Rs 25,000-crore industry by 2012 is ‘impossible’. The industry has also decided to hold back investments worth Rs 1,500 crore. The target was set based on the 15-20 per cent growth that the industry had witnessed till 2007-08. However, exports started declining by about 13 per cent since then. The negative growth is simply due to shifting of orders to china, Bangladesh and Vietnam, the Chinese government has increased the value-added tax (VAT) refund to 17 per cent from nine per cent, while Bangladesh offers a 15 per cent subsidy for garment exporters. Besides, the exporters get various incentives from the Bangladesh government including tax support, infrastructure and power.
Indian Textile delegation to Japan
1. Mr. Rakesh Vaid, Chairman, Apparel Export Promotion Council During his visit, Maran will inaugurate the Indian Pavilion at the Japan International Fashion Fair (JIFF), known as Mega Apparel and Textile Show, at Tokyo, Japan on July 22. The Fair will run till July 24, and 44 Indian textiles and clothing exporters have booked 50 stalls. The AEPC along with the SRTEPC and the TEXPROCIL are participating in the Fair. With a view to diversify the textiles and clothing exports and reduce dependence on USA and EU 27, the Government is promoting exports to South East Asia under its ‘Look East Policy’. An important component of this policy is to attract of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Japan is one of the biggest consumers of textiles and clothing, but India has very negligible market share of 1.12 per cent in Japanese import basket. To further these objectives, during his stay in Tokyo, Maran will address a business meeting hosted by the Japan-India Business Cooperation Committee (JIBC) and will use this platform to solicit investment in Indian textiles sector, where 100 per cent FDI is permissible. The Indian Government is conscious of the fact that textiles industry needs modernization and there is huge scope for Japanese investment to upgrade spinning, weaving, processing and garmenting facilities. The Government is making serious efforts to attract investment in this important segment of national economy. This interaction is part of series of interactions, which Maran has conceptualized as part of Government efforts to modernize Indian textiles industry and explore new markets for Indian textiles and clothing exports. Union Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran will lead the joint trade delegation of textiles sector to Japan on July 20. The seventeen-member delegation comprises the representatives of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL), the Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Promotion Council (SRTEPC), the Knitwear Technology Mission, and leading textiles manufacturers and exporters from Tirupur and Coimbatore textiles clusters. SIHMA has announced 7% hike in knitwear products….
Written By Views maker on Sunday, June 7, 2009 | 9:06 PM
Tirupur manufacturers has been supplier inner wear and knitted garments to various parts of India on a regular basis, The association of the hosiery manufacturer have decided to increase the price by 7% with respect to all products that they manufacture. This decision was taken after taking the increasing yarn price in to the account. In last three months there was an increase of about 12.Rs/ kG.
The yarn manufacturers have increased the price due to the increasing power cut which is causing a huge loss of production. If government leave these issues unattended this industry shall loose it’s competitive advantage. It’s important that government make the cotton available through cotton corporation of India and provide adequate uninterrupted power supply to spinning mills.
TEA SEEKS Fund for product promotion

The knitwear exporters here have sought the Finance Commission to constitute an exclusive Market Development Fund for the promotion of products developed from Tirupur knitwear cluster, with a corpus of Rs. 1,000 crore. The cluster-specific fund should be utilised to subside the expenditure incurred by the exporters from the cluster, which contributed over Rs. 10,000 crore of foreign exchange to the country’s exchequer, for taking part in the buyer-seller meets, export promotion seminars and trade fairs held both in the country and abroad. Participation in such trade promotion events will help the entrepreneurs here widen their client base substantially thereby realise the targeted export turnover of Rs. 25,000 crore from the cluster by 2012.

The units are mainly dependent on the export of hosiery and knitwear, with around 50-55% going to the EU countries, 30-35% to the US and the remaining to other countries.
